Protein For Bodybuilding

What is the BEST source of protein for bodybuilding? And is protein powder actually helpful?
I used to use dessicated liver tabs, lean beef and chicken. Protein powders are useful but read the label first and use it sparingly. A good, complete diet should be enough to build muscle without the use of supplemented protien powders.
